Why Should I Consider Certification?

Quite honestly, certification may not be suitable for everyone in our business. But for many, the rewards of being certified by a prestigious organization and industry leading group of professionals is really beneficial. Some prospective clients will not care if your are certified or connected with any professional society or group. However, many prospects will look for such affiliations in determining whether they want to hire a particular designer or consultant. And many professionals themselves consider their affiliations as an important validation of their expertise and professionalism.

This is why Certified Redesign Specialists was created. It's a professional and authentic society, formed by seasoned professionals in the redesign industry to afford others the opportunity to affiliate themselves with a group of trained redesign decorators or specialists in a way that gives them focus, direction and credibility in the field. While the CRS itself will be very particular about its membership, it seeks to be affordable to beginning redesigners as well as experienced ones. Becoming certified will allow you to let your prospects and clients see that you have passed a level of professional expertise to be deemed worthy of using our custom certification logo to prove your affiliation with us. By certifying yourself as a redesign specialist through Decorate-Redecorate.Com, you can assure everyone you contact that you have been deemed worthy of being a part of our elite group of independent redesign specialists. No one will be allowed to simply "purchase" a membership. While there is a fee, it by no means allows someone who has not been trained to affiliate themselves without proving first that they are competent, knowledgeable, creative and professional. If you seriously are working as a redesign specialist, we encourage you to apply for certification. If you are a "hobbyist",however, please do not apply.

While becoming certified by CRS is not as expensive as other programs, it just may be more rigid. You see we don't care if you're already certified by some other organization. We don't care if you're an interior design graduate, or you've taken interior design classes or seminars somewhere, nor do we care if you've bought our ebooks and books and studied our materials. The bottom line is whether you have understood and mastered the concepts of arranging furniture and accessories and understand the premise and goals of rearrangement design to our standards and whether we feel you have the ethics and people skills to represent the interior design industry in an honorable and professional manner.

How Do You Evaluate Applicants?

We have put together a Qualification Standards Evaluation and Review Program. Those rare and exceptional individuals that pass our evaluation requirements will have passed a written exam, submitted a portfolio of before and after pictures (or .jpg files) of their work with explanations of the projects submitted for review, and they will have supplied us with references are verifiable and of the highest standards. Materials submitted for evaluation and review shall become the property of Decorate-Redecorate.Com and shall not be returned, so candidates should not submit original photographs or other materials without making copies, but should make sure they are willing to part with whatever they submit permanently.

Candidates will be judged on a variety of levels by a panel of redesign and related industry experts chaired by Barbara Jennings, and all decisions of the panel are final. Once a candidate is admitted as a Certified Redesign Specialist, he or she will be given a certificate of acceptance and be allowed to display our CRS logo on their websites and other promotional materials.

Candidates who do not pass our evaluation and review process shall be turned down, but may reapply again after a 3-month waiting period. More on this below.

What Are the Fees for Certification?

An evaluation and review fee shall be paid in advance with an applicant's Application Form. If the applicant is accepted, the entire fee shall be considered the membership fee for the first year. Thereafter, continued certification shall require a small nominal annual renewal fee. Renewals will only be extended to those individuals who have continued to conduct business in a professional and ethical manner. Accepted candidates shall also be listed on this website as certified redesign specialists at no additional charge and may feel free to refer prospects to their listing for additonal confirmation of their certification.

The evaluation and review fee is $50.00 (one time only) and $100.00 annual fee. The process has four steps. 1) Submit your application for review and the required $50.00 application fee and $100.00 annual fee ($135 total). Link provided below. 2) Take the design exam. You will be provided with a link to the examination forms. You will also be required to sign a liability waiver and other documents. 3) You will be required to submit before and after photographs or .jpg files of 5 rooms that you have personally rearranged for clients. Three of your rooms may belong to you, your extended family or friends, but two should be for legitimate paying clients, and you must state the details of each redesign so that we have adequate evidence that it reflects your work as a legitimate redesign specialist. 4) You must provide us with hand-written or typed and signed statements from 3-5 clients or individuals who have experienced your talents and professionalism and who would recommend you and your services to others. Please don't submit a reference from your Mom.

Once you have completed all of the steps listed above, your submission will be reviewed by our panel of industry experts. You will be notified in writing of our decision within 2 weeks of submission. If your portfolio is accepted, you will be sent an official certificate of recognition and you will be free to market your services as an affiliate to CRS, as meeting the high standards of our Certificate Program.

What If I Am Rejected for Certification?

If an applicant is rejected for certification, the $50 application fee shall be kept and the remainder shall be refunded to the applicant by company check ($100), along with a brief explanation of the denied application. If the applicant decides to submit a second application after a required waiting period of not less than 3 months (to allow the applicant to study redesign more extensively and acquire new client photographs or .jpg files to submit), a $20 reapplication processing fee, plus the amount originally refunded ($100) shall be charged. The applicant must take a new design exam and submit new photos or files, and new references. If the applicant is turned down a second time, that applicant may not re-apply again for one year, and then the applicant must apply as if a brand new applicant.

What If I Do Not Complete the Certification Process?

Once you apply for Certification, if you change your mind at any point before your portfolio has been presented to the Panel, you may receive a $125 refund. Upon written request by email or by letter, your application shall be voided and a cancellation fee of $25 will be assessed. If, however, the panel has already reviewed your portfolio and application before we receive your cancellation request, you will only be eligible for an $100 refund. In either case, you will receive a refund check for the balance.
